When your cruise ship docks, head out on a 6-hour shore excursion and discover the unassuming natural beauty of northern Tenerife. Walk around the rock formations and cliffs that surround Mt Teide, and then travel to the nearby Orotava Valley for another stroll complete with dreamy island vistas. After a pickup from the Tenerife port, travel inland by air-conditioned minibus with your expert guide. As you travel, chat with your guide about the places on your itinerary, and if you would perhaps like to focus on one area more than another, simply let your guide know.
Before long, your route leads to Esperanza, the vast northern Tenerife forest where towering native pines and eucalyptus plants cloak the terrain. Look out of your window as you meander along winding forest roads, fringed with leafy vegetation, and have your camera ready for your first sight of Mt Teide: Tenerife's famous volcano and one of Spain's highest peaks.
The forest road continues into Las Canadas National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site formed around an enormous volcanic crater. Hop out of your minibus to do a little exploring on foot, and admire the craggy escarpments, rock formations and surrounding foothills of Mt Teide, textured in rich volcanic soil.
Having explored the park trails with your guide, return to your minibus and call in at a nearby cafe for lunch (own expense). Feeling revitalized, travel onward through more of the area's stunning pine forests and into La Orotava Valley (Valle de la Orotava), a region filled with gullies and cliffs. Dominated by the ever-present sight of Mt Teide, the lush landscape of the valley makes for some spectacular photos, with verdant hills framing the volcanic backdrop. Stroll through the area, and scout out the top vantage points with your guide.
From La Orotava Valley, travel back to the Tenerife port and finish your shore excursion with a port drop-off.
